Overview

Take-Away: Participants will learn the basic principles of exploratory scenario planning and develop a toolbox of resources for integrating exploratory scenario planning into their planning projects.

Description: Scenario planning is an approach to long range planning for cities and regions that enables communities to create and analyze multiple plausible versions of the future. It is increasingly being used in urban planning projects because of its usefulness in times of uncertainty and complexity. This session will provide an overview of exploratory scenario planning and how it can be used to make general and comprehensive plans more sustainable and adaptable to uncertain futures. The session will also present how exploratory scenario planning is being used by the City of Flagstaff and Coconino County in the Flagstaff Regional Plan update.
