Overview

Take-Away: Participants will leave with better interdisciplinary communication skills between transportation and public health, and knowledge of tools available to them.

Description: The growing number of collaborations between public health and transportation has resulted in often humorous, sometimes tragic miscommunication that can lead to missed opportunities. The need to understand how common words are used differently in each discipline has become increasingly important. This highly interactive and engaging session will use active learning techniques to explore sources of miscommunication and develop interdisciplinary communication skills. Participants will leave with a greater appreciation of the communication divide and an understanding of the tools presented in the NCHRP Report “Connecting Transportation and Health: A Guide to Communication and Collaboration”, an accessible practitioner-ready communications guidebook.
