Overview

Take-Away: Learn how aggregate protection efforts can improve the sustainability and affordability of community development and prevent difficult land use conflicts.

Description: Many municipalities have experienced the unintended consequences of poor aggregate resource planning. As the principal component in virtually every construction project, the availability of construction aggregates is directly tied to the affordability of all residential, commercial, industrial and municipal projects. The speakers will share methods for identifying aggregate resources in your planning areas, describe best practices for complying with the Arizona Aggregate Protection Act, discuss strategies for preserving valuable aggregate resources and avoiding untenable land use conflicts. Hands on exercises will calculate future aggregate demands for your planning areas and explore how the lack of resource planning can create serious community, regulatory and political conflicts.
